I interviewed my father about his experience with disease. He hasn’t had any actual diseases, he rarely gets sick. But he knew someone who died of AIDS. My dad remembers him because it was a good neighbor. Apparently this was during the time when HIV first started to become a problem At first it was assumed that only homosexuals got HIV and my dad’s neighbor was gay. But my dad felt sorry for him. he remembers how he always had a doctor check up on him, especially when he got closer to his death. He lived for only two years after being diagnosed with it. My dad was in his 30s and the neighbor was also in his 30s.
That is very sad. Diseases of all kinds have caused many problems in our daily lives. I remember hearing that one could live very long with HIV before it turned into AIDS. As long as a person without AIDS even. But that was not the case. Did your father’s neighbor take a lot of medications (like Magic Johnson)? That’s strange why people thought it because of gays, AIDS appeared. I never really got that but the public can say/do very strange things when they are in a state of panic. My regards to your past neighbor.
I would really like to know how and why people thought only gays got AIDS and why a lot of them actually had it. I was watching a documentary of the killing of Matthew Sheppard who was gay and had AIDS. I guess it could have just been a coincidence that started making people believe certain things.
